With many WWII veterans gone at the close of the 20th century, video biographies of military personnel who served in that conflict are increasingly valuable in order to leave a record for future generations. This video looks at 12 veterans from New Mexico, each of whom participated in a particularly memorable wartime experience, such as the Bataan Death March, the liberation of the concentration camps, and the Normandy landing. These and other events are vividly described by the 11 men and one woman interviewed here, as they offer first-hand accounts of what it was like to serve in the various branches of the military and--in their own low-key way--manage to convey to viewers why future wars will be nothing like the horrors of WWII. Of particular interest are the interviews with one of the original Tuskeegee Airmen, a Navaho 'code-talker', and noted author Tony Hillerman, but all of the segments are riveting. Sure to be popular, this is strongly recommended. Aud: P. (J. Carlson)
