Comprised of seven chapters with 17 individual segments, IrishMosaics is sure to provide balance to collections that mostly represent the arts of Ireland as quaint, rustic, or medieval. One chapter presents an excellent selection of five animated and non-animated short films (including the Oscar-nominated Dance Lexie Dance [VL-3/99]); another offers a walking tour of Ireland, narrated in Irish with English subtitles. Other chapters feature music videos (Bablefish, Nina Hynes), interviews with film personalities (Pierce Brosnan, Gabriel Byrne), and sports highlights that will be best appreciated by those who understand Gaelic football and hurling. Some of these pieces (such as the Brosnan interview) were produced in the mid-'90s, but most are of more recent vintage, and the DVD format allows viewers the wonderful flexibility to move between pieces and assemble their own Irish mosaic. Sure to be very popular in libraries serving a larger Irish-American community, this is highly recommended. Aud: P. (K. Sullivan)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
