Physical, sexual, and emotional abuse are the ugly facts of everyday life for millions of young people, with over 90% of child abuse cases beginning in infancy. In this program, a panel of doctors and social work professionals, speaking before a studio audience, address several topics, including: child abuse indicators, the differences between abuse and corporal punishment, what to do if you suspect child abuse, and how to stop it in your own family or community. Those who make it through the entire 90 minutes are rewarded with some resources for parents: local Florida phone numbers, an e-mail address, a web site, and one 800 number. Although the information presented was adequate, the presentation was dull and stifling. Some of the panelists tended to ramble, while others were cut off by the moderator (who appeared to be timing each answer). The talking heads approach could have been enhanced by graphics, a much tighter script, and a firmer hand at the editing console. Not recommended. Aud: C, P. (E. Druda)
