Like a lot of people, Joe and Carol McVeigh made a home video record of their family vacation, but unlike a lot of people they decided to share it with the rest of the world. Granted that the vacation is unusual--a 2,500 mile trek along the Continental Divide from the Canadian Rockies to the Mexican border--the fact remains that the McVeigh's are accomplished hikers but rather amateur filmmakers. We watched the 90 minute version (there is also a 210 minute version for $49.95), which features a lot of long shots of either of the McVeigh's huffing and puffing up one hill after the other, finally reaching the camera and praising the view. This is a little tiresome to all but fanatic hikers and/or immediate family members. Occasionally some historical or geographical information is thrown in (like the McVeigh's trek across what they call the "Blackfeet Indian reservation"), but for the most part this is purely home video stuff with no real sense of structure, pacing, or story. Not recommended. (Available from: Purple Dragon Ventures, P.O. Box 164, Virginia City, NV 89440; (702) 847-9088.)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
