Based on their original 2010 short (also included here as a bonus feature), this documentary from filmmakers Jason Kovacsev and Matt Mamula focuses on a handful of artists scheduled to appear at the Sunburst Convention of Celebrity Impersonators in Orlando. The originator of the annual networking event, Greg Thompson, who cites P.T. Barnum as a hero, is interviewed, as well as lookalikes of Robert De Niro, a Jack Nicholson (“they think we all must belong in some rubber room somewhere”), an Elvis who is very impressed with his own charisma (and the fact that they announce him over the PA system at his local Home Depot even when he's in regular clothes), Bill Clinton and George W. Bush fakes who do a musical skit at a community college (sooooo many empty seats!), Obama performing at a Chinese restaurant, and a Madonna who brags about doing funerals, weddings, and her Playboy offer. Combining behind-the-scenes planning of seminars and showcases together with clips of the impersonators—who also include father-and-son KISS performers, Dame Edna, Whoopi Goldberg, and a Hugh Hefner who still hasn't told his 94-year-old mom about his “gig,” Just About Famous effectively captures the corny but sweet camaraderie between the doppelgangers.
