Produced in Vancouver, British Columbia, Killer Whales of the Pacific Northwest, hosted by 10-year old Jessica, explores the simple pleasures of whale watch cruises and aquarium visits, looking at Shamu's relatives as well as bay neighbors of the Orcas, such as eagles and harbor seals. In addition, the program examines the efforts of officials and volunteers to keep overenthusiastic humans a safe and respectful distance from the whales (and other sea mammals). For kids old enough to read, interesting whale factoids separate each video segment (i.e., killer whales are the largest member of the dolphin family, and they can swim as fast as 35 m.p.h.) and all ages will delight in the weird-yet-beautiful whale vocalizations. Considering the high production values and the low price, this is easily recommended. Aud: K, E, P. (C. Block)

As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
