You may come to scoff and stay to praise: the members of Les Ballets Trockadero are more than “men in tights.” A cult favorite of major dance companies since their debut in 1974, Les Ballets Trockadero today entertain audiences worldwide with their skilled parodies of classical ballet. Volume 1 features the signature work of the troop--"Swan Lake"--complete with quavering corps de ballet; a truly electrifying "La Bayadere"; an over-the top "The Dying Swan"; and a solid finale of "Raymonda's Wedding." For timing, athleticism and comic sensibility, you can't beat this troop of classically trained dancers who take viewers beyond the realm of camp and into the world of art. Also included on the disc is a 13-minute interview with artistic director Tony Dobrin. Volume 2, also available at the same price, features the troupe performing "Les Sylphides," Le Grand Pas de Quatre," "Paquita," and "Yes, Virginia." Highly recommended. Aud: P. (J. Reed)
