The curse of machismo has indoctrinated generation after generation of Latin American men (as well as men in other cultures) in the terrible cycle of domestic abuse and alienation from their families. Here, three men are shown attempting to break the cycle, with positive results, through the intervention of counselors from the Latin American Community Council. Alfredo, Luis, and Victor talk about their former family life and how things are different now, especially for their wives and children. Although I suspect something missing in the subtitled version I watched (and libraries may want to order the straight Spanish version instead), this program is worth considering for libraries who serve communities with large Hispanic populations. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
