The advent of newsreel photography in this century has given us some indelible mental images and one of the most enduring is that of Charles Lindbergh and his tiny plane, "The Spirit of St. Louis." To modern viewers, it might seem odd that a flight across the Atlantic could cause worldwide celebration, but the producers of this video have done an outstanding job in presenting both the thrilling story of the flight and the era in which it took place. The world was in need of heroes and Lindbergh fit the bill whether he wanted to or not. Before his flight, several other pilots in much larger planes had died trying to win the Orteig Prize; Lindbergh, himself, had wanted to purchase a Wright Bellanca which dwarfed his "Spirit" in size. Nevertheless, he made his flight in the relatively tiny aircraft and the rest, as they say, is history. Cameron Richardson (the writer, editor, and narrator) has done a commendable job in making that history seem new and exciting again. He's come up with a film that will entertain and enlighten viewers of all ages. Very highly recommended! Editor's Choice. Aud: J, H, C, P. (J. Carlson)
