Lingerie

It's somewhat daunting for a dedicated cheap shot artist like myself to undertake the review of a product with as many naughty double-entendres in the attendant promotional literature as this "documentary" carries, but in the interest of aiding video librarians in the selection process, plus the prospect of viewing lots of sleek models in their underwear, I plowed ahead. Promising that viewers will “see the industry of lingerie exposed!”, Lingerie is essentially a survey of styles of underclothing that offers the opportunity to show hot pix in a nominally non-salacious format. For the engineering-oriented viewer, the segment on “Bra Wars: The Push for the Perfect Cleavage” chronicles the technical developments and aesthetic aspirations that resulted in the “wonder bra” and other modern marvels, while the section entitled “Modeling Lingerie” approaches Victoria's Secret dimensions. Other topics include brassiere history, “knickers” (one of many auditory clues that this is a British production), and an examination of fashion vs. function. The two pieces most likely to entice viewers are “A New Breed is Busting!” and “What is Sexy?”, both of which are self-explanatory. Men's underwear fashion rates one segment, so this video (not unlike librarianship) is numerically dominated by women, probably because half-naked men are nasty and half-naked women are art. Sure to inflate circulation figures for the all-important breeder male YA demographic, this is recommended, overall. Aud: P. (M. Tribby)
