Watching Jerry Lee Lewis play piano with his butt is, of course, always an unmitigated treat, and here viewers will see the Man Who Will Forever Be Remembered For Marrying His 13-Year-Old Cousin whoopin' it up on "Whole Lotta Shakin'" and others. Peter Clifton's ramshackle record of the highlights of the 1972 London Rock & Roll Show features performances by and interviews with Lewis, Little Richard (as always, electrifying on stage, and an outrageous braggart on camera), Bill Haley, Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley, serving up signatures hits such as "Tutti Frutti," "Rock Around the Clock," and "Memphis," along with occasional sound bites from Mick Jagger. From the "Is It Music, Or Is It a Cultural Artifact?" department, the program also features Screaming Lord Sutch, accompanied by…um…bikini-clad girls carrying a coffin across the stage. Not exactly sit-round-the-home-theater-and-be-wowed level material--either audio or visually speaking--London Rock & Roll Show nevertheless provides a time capsule look at Brit rockers circa the early '70s, and is therefore a strong optional purchase.
