Marc and Ann Savoy, the Cajun couple featured in Les Blank's J'ai Ete Au Bal and Yum, Yum, Yum!, are profiled in this warm and witty look at love Cajun-style. After meeting at a folk festival, Marc and Ann were wed in 1977, and have devoted their lives together to the preservation of Cajun culture in all its diversity. Marc, a renowned accordion-maker and player, is put off and baffled by the modern world: "Sometimes I think I'm still a caveman...all this man-made poo-poo, I just can't figure it out." The Savoy children may not be familiar with the moves of M.C. Hammer, but they can skin animals and tan their hides. Ann, a diligent worker, is also the author of Cajun Music: A Reflection of a People, and while she sells and autographs copies of her book during a street fair, Marc and the kids go fishing for supper. Marc and Ann is the kind of film that puts a big smile on your face. Not because the couple are quaint; on the contrary, they are both well-spoken and extremely knowledgeable in their chosen field--but because they're rich. Rich in love, rich in family, rich in life, and in a general sense, rich in spirit. In this day and age, these are admirable accomplishments. Highly recommended. Editor's Choice.
