Offering a brief overview of the former King of Pop's career highlights, Michael Jackson: The One features nary a word about the sundry controversies that have surrounded the singer since the mid-'80s. Rather, combining old clips and current interviews with the likes of Beyoncé, Dick Clark, Wyclef Jean, and Missy Elliott, the program revisits Jackson's gradual world conquest from childhood fame with the Jackson 5 to the mega-selling solo album Thriller, marking a time when he could do no wrong and displayed (as Clark points out) a single-minded control over his material, performances, costumes, staging, etc. This profile keeps the accent positive even as the focus shifts to making Bad and subsequent semi-hits, when critics became less kind and a backlash against Jackson's eccentricities (and possible crimes) grew. Presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 and PCM stereo, this is recommended as a reminder of Jackson's former greatness. Aud: P. (T. Keogh)
