Household name Reader's Digest plunges into the nature film market with this handsome 3-volume set that leads off with "The Great Journeys," examining the remarkable travels of wildebeests to whales as they migrate thousands of miles to Africa, Iceland, Central America, Christmas Island, and Alaska, in search of food, water, a better climate, and breeding grounds. The second volume, "The Great Milestones," explores the mating rituals, birth, family life, and death of animals, focusing on how birth is timed to ensure maximum survival and nature's mandate to care for the young. The final volume, "The Great Hunts," takes viewers on a wildlife world tour as it explores how insects, fish, and animals have honed their hunting skills and pass them on to their offspring. Presenting a broad overview of different facets of life in the animal kingdom, this production features great photography and interesting narration. Although lacking the curricular depth necessary for higher education collections, this would be a good choice for junior and senior high schools and is sure to be popular in public libraries.
