Originally airing on the Discovery Channel, this program follows a 2003 expedition of scientists and experts from the University of York “mummy research team,” led by Dr. Joann Fletcher, to identify a mummy discovered in Egypt's Valley of the Kings that is believed (by some, and disputed by others) to be Queen Nefertiti, legendary 14th-century B.C. beauty, queen, and (possibly) pharaoh during the 18th dynasty. X-ray analysis and forensic reconstruction are used to gather clues, while artwork gleaned from structures and other artifacts aid historians in reconstructing the tumultuous reign of Nefertiti and her husband Akhenaten. Speculating on the reasons behind Nefertiti's obliteration from the public record, Nefertiti Resurrected presents an interesting look at both the woman herself and the ways in which archeology, technology, and science combine to help solve the mysteries of the past. DVD extras include two interactive galleries: “Explore the Evidence” and “Video Forensics.” Recommended. Aud: H, C, P. (L. Stevens)
