Presented by the Association for a Better New York (meaning there are no shots of the homeless or scenes of convenience-store robberies), this program offers a somewhat idealized, but truly lovely, portrait of the Big Apple. Scenes of parks and museums in the city's five boroughs (Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and the Bronx) are intercut with interviews featuring dyed-in-the-wool-I-heart-New York-ers. While the narration occasionally verges on the hilarious (my favorite line is: "there's always a party happening, and you're always invited;" but they don't add "particularly if you're carting interesting amounts of the current drug of choice"), they don't recommend anything truly silly (like "Central Park in the moonlight is a must."). An award-winner at the International Film & Video Festival, this program does indeed make New York look like a really great city. Recommended. (See COLLEGE FRESHMAN SURVIVAL GUIDE for availability.)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
