Captured live in an intimate concert at New Orleans' House of Blues in August 2002, five-Grammy Award winner Norah Jones tickles the ivories, while Adam Levy supplies guitar and backing vocals, co-songwriter Lee Alexander lays down bass, and Andrew Borger mans the drums on this low-key 14-song set, 10 of which hail from her heralded 2002 full-length debut album Come Away With Me. The daughter of Ravi Shankar, the 24-year-old singer/songwriter chanteuse mixes country, jazz, blues, and pop on songs ranging from a remake of Hank Williams' "Cold, Cold Heart" to her mega-hit "Don't Know Why." Although, in my opinion, Jones doesn't yet favorably compare to someone like Diana Krall, who sings and plays rings around the musical ingénue, Jones' voice shows real promise (as far as this DVD goes, fans will enjoy the gig, while many who are new to Jones' music will wonder what all the fuss is about, especially since the singer has little stage presence and appears nervous to boot). Extras on this Dolby Digital 5.1 release include a bonus song ("Tennessee Waltz") and the music video for "Come Away With Me." Given the budget price and the phenomenal acclaim, this one's sure to be popular and definitely recommended. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)
