A collection of live performances that didn't make the final cut for the acclaimed 1982 documentary Gospel (VL-7/02), Shirley Caesar leads off here with an intense "Miracle Worker," followed by the confessional brilliance of the Mighty Clouds of Joy on "I've Been in the Storm Too Long." The Reverend James Cleveland delivers a taut "Great Is Thy Faithfulness," and the Clark Sisters prove they have the cleansing power of a rough storm on "Pure Gold." Walter Hawkins and family (and friends) take over the second half of the show, with "What Is This?", the show-stopping "I'm Going Away," and the gorgeously ecstatic classic “Oh Happy Day.” Presented in stereo, the disc's special features include artist profiles and a fascinating history of the title song. Highly recommended. Aud: P. (T. Keogh)
