Scottish pirate Captain William Mackay, an entrepreneur of sorts, made his reputation in the Canadian provinces for his tasty and notably strong rum which locals distinguished as "the real Mackay" (later, McCoy). That's but one of the fun tidbits uncovered by hostess Anne Martin in this engaging episode of On Top if the World, a television series new to the U.S. video market. Martin interviews the Honorable John Buchanan, Premier of Nova Scotia, who talks about the early 18th-century settlers. She also visits Peggy's Cove (the No. 1 tourist attraction); talks with duck decoy carver Randy Rhodenizer, quilter Ida Keltz, and splint box aficionado Richard Henning Field; and stops off at the Atlantic Fisheries Museum where she recounts the history of Nova Scotia's legendary champion schooner, the "Bluenose." Although the tape has fadeouts where the commercials should be, overall Martin is a congenial and well-informed hostess and she presents the material in a lively and engaging manner. Highly recommended. The other available episodes are: Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Greece, Cuba, England, Vancouver, Ontario, Grenada, Ireland, Denmark, Barbados, Isle of Man, and Canada.
