As the dialogue about gay and lesbian issues continues, new ideas and images are needed to give perspective to the sometimes confusing glut of information. Separating stereotypes from reality is never simple, but in these nine short pieces, the task is made easier. Each short profiles an openly homosexual youth (15-23 years old), and offers a montage of images related to a narrative they wrote about their experiences. Between each piece, sound bites designed to stimulate response are featured. Emotions and perspectives are varied--some kids are fearful, despairing, hopeless, or tormented; while others are proud, exuberant, peaceful, or exploring. Still, the very personal narrations express a few common threads: the need for acceptance, the loss of innocence, and the basic human desire to be understood. The concept works well, but the video sometimes is not as cohesive as it could be, and some youths are not as articulate as others. Production values are fairly solid; however, this is still an optional purchase. Aud: J, H, P. (E. Gieschen)
