The parables of Jesus have been subject to various interpretations throughout the ages. Here, four parables--The Good Samaritan, The Talents, The Prodigal Son and The Unjust Steward--are presented in discrete 15-minute programs, each featuring the text of the parable set against scenes of the Holy Land, commentary from biblical scholars with different perspectives (Professor Joanna Dewey providing historical context and Professor Walter Wangerin offering reflections on the social and religious elements), and an informal discussion of key points with comments from students in a campus setting. While no definitive conclusions are reached (like the parables themselves, interpretations are left open-ended), the discussions are nevertheless weak, yielding no profound thoughts or unique insights. An optional purchase for religious studies or discussion groups who can afford a price that is inconsistent with the unremarkable production values. Aud: H, C, P. (J. Reed)
