On August 1, 1999 Polly Letofsky began a 14,124-mile walk around the world to raise awareness for breast cancer and funds for continued research. Directed by her brother P.J. Letofsky, Polly's GlobalWalk documents the five-year project—from the initial idea through her experiences in Asia, New Zealand, Australia, Europe, and Canada, culminating in her triumphant return to the starting point in Vail, CO—combining footage shot on the trek with interviews of Letofsky, parents, friends, supporters, other women who joined Polly for shorter stretches, and healthcare workers who saw concrete results from Letofsky's efforts both in terms of education and financial support for cancer care. Letofsky describes the challenges of traveling alone and on foot, including worries about poisonous spiders and snakes, adverse weather, physical and emotional stress, dealing with cultural differences and language barriers, and administrative concerns. Despite the difficulties, Letofsky tends to find the humor in most situations, while her charismatic and positive personality enables her to connect with people worldwide. An inspirational portrait that reminds us of the tremendous beneficial impact a single person can make, Polly's GlobalWalk is highly recommended. Aud: C, P. (M. Puffer-Rothenberg)
