If you think rural lands are being eaten by subdivisions now, just wait: it's estimated that the U.S. population will double in the next hundred years. This video takes a close-up look at population explosion elsewhere, in three of the world's largest and fastest-growing cities: Cairo, Bangkok, and Mexico City. The causes of their rapid urbanization and the strains on infrastructures are examined, along with quality of life issues such as housing and the problem of pollution. While the program examines megalopoli in the developing world, there's much food for thought and discussion which teachers could use to discuss development sprawl in North America. Short and concise, the video would be useful for ecology, sociology, and geography classes. Recommended. The companion volume, Population 2000: Six Billion People, is also available at the same price. Aud: I, J, H. (R. Reagan)
