Skinheads, militias, white supremacist and other hate groups have jarred America into realizing that prejudice is still very much the "monster within." Opening with a discussion by teens of their experiences with prejudice, the documentary flashes back to America's treatment of slaves, Native Americans ("a disrespected minority"), and our relocation of Japanese-Americans during World War II. The program also offers the world view with a look at the Holocaust and "ethnic cleansing" in Bosnia. Much of what the video says is common sense and beyond argument. However, critics of multiculturalism will decry the implication that European and American whites are the primary carriers of prejudice. The video also cites California's Proposition 187 on immigration as an example of prejudice, without acknowledging that some people have other reasons for supporting this measure. At its most logical the video simply states "think for yourself." A teacher's resource guide is included. An optional purchase for larger collections. Aud: H, C, P. (S. Rees)
