Writer Graham Hancock is searching for clues that may lead to an undiscovered civilization supposed to existed around 10,500 B.C. Hancock's quest takes him from Egypt to Cambodia to Micronesia to Europe to Mexico to South America, where he believes he has found astronomical and archeological evidence which links these remote locales. Hancock theorizes that an advanced civilization which pre-dates that of ancient Egypt was lost at the end of the last Ice Age. Survivors set out by sea to disseminate their knowledge of mathematics and astronomy. These survivors, and their heirs, effectively circled the earth, and their influence can be seen in places such as the Valley of the Kings in Egypt, Easter Island and Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Although Hancock never says as much, the persistent legend of Atlantis may be at the bottom of this quest. While Hancock's argument is not thoroughly convincing, he does certainly identify some supposed coincidences--pyramid builders in Egypt and Mexico, recurring spiritual icons like the feathered serpent--which are probably not coincidences at all. A thought-provoking quest, this is recommended. Aud: P. (P. Van Vleck)
