So which is better, the book or the movie? According to any one of the many teens interviewed in this paean to the printed word, the answer is the book--always (which, of course, is not true; consider The Bridges of Madison County). Basically a collection of interviews, Reading Frenzy features avid teenage readers recommending favorite titles and offering brief plot summaries--sort of mini oral book reports. The range of authors and titles is wide, encompassing popular novelists such as Tom Clancy and John Grisham, as well as classic and contemporary writers such as Tolkien, Twain, and Vonnegut, while also touching on biographies, poetry, and folktales. Reading is lauded as a means of inhabiting others' minds--either fictional characters or stories of real people--across time and space. Unfortunately, while the intent is sincere, this is essentially all talking-heads and shots of book covers, and the picture quality is sometimes sketchy. Optional. Aud: J, H, P. (E. Gieschen)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
