If you really want to pay tribute to Richard Pryor, then make sure your collection includes Live in Concert and Live on the Sunset Strip, as the only worthwhile moments from this Comedy Central special are clips from these benchmark concert films, which capture Pryor at his peak. The rest of the running time is padded with appearances by some of Comedy Central's stable of personalities, including Jon Stewart, Dave Chappelle, Wanda Sykes, and a tiresome Mario Cantone. None have anything insightful to say about the brilliant and influential comedian who raised the bar with his still-potent takes on race relations; in fact, most of their screen time is spent simply repeating Pryor's gags, intercut with the master himself performing said material. Chris Rock, Robin Williams, Whoopi Goldberg, Denis Leary, and Bernie Mac lend some star power, but not much else (Rock calls Pryor "Zeus"), while Pryor's wife shamelessly plugs another Pryor-related project, and implies that she's the inspiration for some of her husband's most incendiary routines about male-female relationships. Not a necessary purchase. Aud: P. (D. Liebenson)
