Right to Risk

There's nothing like a 15-day, 225-mile whitewater rafting trip though the Grand Canyon to demolish stereotypes about what people with disabilities are capable of accomplishing. John and Kathleen Jo Ryan's Right to Risk follows eight individuals (who are blind or paraplegic, or have cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, spina bifida, or other challenges) with the desire—and the right—to tackle potentially dangerous life experiences. And make no mistake: although led by knowledgeable guides and accompanied by helpers, this is no Sunday morning float trip. Told mostly in chronological order, the journey here unfolds for the viewer as if he or she were along for the ride, with the intimate stories and feelings shared by the participants becoming richer and more poignant as the days go by.
