During a live performance filmed for BET's Jazz Central, Roberta Flack introduces the song "Reverend Lee" with a story of redemption and faith concerning the titular preacher and a full-figured 38-24-45 temptation. Needless to say, full-figured fans in the audience went wild (and apparently, as the song goes, so did the Reverend). Throughout this 2000 concert, the soul chanteuse performs slightly revised and updated arrangements of classics such as “Feel Like Makin' Love,” “Killing Me Softly With His Song,” “The Closer I Get To You” and “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.” The sultry, jazzy vocalist, whose love ballads were a staple of the early '70s, sounds superb, rounding out the admittedly short play list with “Why Don't You Move In With Me?,” “Stormy Monday,” and covers “Sweet Georgia Brown” and “The Thrill Is Gone.” Filmed at a Washington, D.C. supper club before a laid back appreciative audience, and presented in full-bodied Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, this legendary diva showcase is highly recommended.
