Most rock critics and rock musicians are in agreement when it comes to the late Roy Orbison: He's a legend. This video is a collection of concert and TV clips featuring Orbison performing most of the songs that made him famous, paired with a number of comments from music industry VIPs--including k.d. lang, Bono, Don Was, Raul Malo, Maurice Gibb, Robert Plant, Bernie Taupin and Dwight Yoakam--offering their insights into Orbison's special gifts. The sound quality is uniformly good. The concert footage obviously spans a good many years and finds Orbison in some very strange concert settings early in his career, while the footage from more recent productions looks like it was filmed on a different planet. We watch as video techniques grow much more sophisticated and, though we see Orbison change over time, his audiences actually change more. It's a valuable visual and aural record of one of the most influential musicians in the history of rock. The 14 songs include a great duet with k.d. lang on "Crying," plus "Pretty Woman," "Oobie Doobie," "In Dreams" and "Running Scared." Highly recommended. Aud: P. (P. Van Vleck)
