Canadian power rock trio Rush—bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson, and songwriter/drummer/percussionist Neil Peart—go to the commercial well for Working Men, a scaled-down live “greatest hits” package featuring performances culled from three earlier DVD releases: 2003's Rush in Rio, 2005's R30 (VL-1/06), and 2008's Snakes & Arrows Live (VL-3/09). The skimpy (for Rush) 12-song set boasts classic tunes such as “Limelight,” “The Spirit of Radio,” “Freewill,” “Tom Sawyer,” “Subdivisions,” “Working Man,” “Dreamline,” and “Closer to the Heart”; the instrumentals “2112” and “XYZ”; and their latest hit “Far Cry.” Working Men includes one additional so-called “unreleased” track, “One Little Victory,” although the song was actually performed on Snakes & Arrows Live (in fact, 10 of these songs were, missing only “Closer to the Heart” and “Working Man”) and was also added to the new Blu-ray release of R30. A great band, excellent performances (in Dolby Digital 5.1 and stereo), and a good price—but if you already have R30 or Snakes & Arrows Live (or both) in your music DVD collection, there's no need to buy this one.
