A skillfully produced, computer-enhanced "gallery" of "portraits" in sanctity, the Saints' Gallery series presents lives of Christian saints as illustrated in classic works of art. Saints are described here as persons who show us how to practice the gospel; their words and actions a testament to their devotion to Jesus. They walk toward God in a variety of ways: lives of poverty, scriptural study, evangelism, and self sacrifice. Presented here are Mary, the mother of Jesus and Queen of Saints; St. Valentine, the patron saint of lovers; St. Patrick, patron saint of Ireland; St. Nicholas, patron saint of Greece and Russia; and St. Mary Magdalene, witness to the risen Christ. Throughout, an effort is made to separate fact from myth and legend (such as debunking the image of Mary Magdalene as a fallen woman). A clear and upbeat presentation which should have great appeal for younger audiences, this would provide a good resource for religious discussion groups. Recommended.
