Expect to hear a saccharine century-old tale flowered with phrases straight from a romantic novel, like "borne of clear mountain streams," "battles lost and won," and "the beauty and spirit of the Highlands." It isn't a theatrically overdone ode to men in kilts and their ladies in waiting, though. Rather, it's a historical account told rather too passionately of Scotland's malt whisky trail and its illicit past. Viewers will see what it takes to create the "Water of Life," including how many years the brew requires to reach full maturity, how politics played a role in the country's liquid gold, and how the Scots store their prized possession in oak casks. Plus, the video includes a tour of eight distilleries, including The Cardhu Distillery, Tamdhu Distillery, and The Glenlivet. Set to enchanting music, the video also showcases Scotland's amazing scenery. A strong optional purchase. (M. K. Lau)
