A man of many hats (see BORN OF FIRE), Dr. Robert Ballard is the 'star' of this fascinating story of the discovery of the ill-fated S.S. Titanic. Martin Sheen narrates this story of a tragedy that has intrigued the world for over 70 years. Lying in two sections, two-and-one-half miles beneath the surface of the sea, the wreckage of the most famous ocean liner in history is explored by Dr. Ballard and a team of researchers in a submersible deep- sea-craft. One of the most interesting members of the team, Jason, a camera- equipped remote-controlled robot, descends into the ghostlike ballroom of Titanic, while photographs of how it once looked are intercut with present-day footage. To be honest, the 'secrets' exposed here are more visual than revelatory--the biggest being that, confirming some eyewitness reports from survivors, the ship did in fact split in half. After the numerous films about the sinking of the Titanic, a program which features actual footage of "the largest moving object ever built by man (at the time)" is sure to be very popular. Highly recommended.
