Martin Sheen narrates this interesting look at an American legend: the Sequoia, presidential yacht. Built in 1925 as a pleasure craft, Sequoia began official duty on March 25, 1933 under Hoover's reign. Since then she's gone on to serve eight Presidents. After being let go by Carter in 1977, Sequoia went through several owners and much misuse. Refurbished through the efforts of the Presidential Yacht Trust, Sequoia will be officially brought back to the White House later this year by President Reagan. Historical footage interspersed throughout the film shows that Sequoia was the setting not only for lavish entertainments but also important meetings with leaders such as Churchill and Brezhnev. An interesting, well-made slice of Americana--though the subject matter, in the context of the full scope of American history, is relatively incidental. Recommended for larger public and school libraries. (See COMPUTER GRAPHICS SPECIAL for availability.)
