For this splashy Las Vegas extravaganza, the culmination of a two-year residency at Caesar's Palace, Shania Twain embraces the pop, country, and rock sides of her persona. Following an introductory clip, Twain appears astride a motorcycle lowered from the ceiling of the Coliseum. With her flowing hair and black lace cat-suit, she looks like a cross between Marianne Faithful, circa Girl on a Motorcycle, and Ann-Margret in Viva Las Vegas (there will be more costume changes and dramatic entrances to come, including prairie dresses and sequined miniskirts). Twain performs a 20-song set (plus additional instrumentals and interludes) with a 13-piece ensemble (including backup singers) that creates a big, busy sound that probably worked better live, since the music frequently overwhelms her somewhat non-distinctive vocals. Fortunately, she also sings a few quieter numbers, such as “Come On Over,” which features harmony vocals from her sister, Carrie-Ann Brown, and twin duo Ryan and Dan Kowarsky. In addition to the motorcycle, Twain rides two horses on to the stage, which starts out as an alien landscape before morphing into an Old West saloon, where she performs overtly country-oriented material, like “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?” Twain saves her signature hit “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” for the end of the evening. Presented in DTS 5.1, Dolby Digital 5.1 and stereo on DVD, and DTS-HD 5.1 and LPCM stereo on Blu-ray, extras include a behind-the-scenes featurette. A strong optional purchase. (K. Fennessy)
