Whether it's the embarrassing DVD jacket mistakes ("More Love" listed as "My Love" or "The Love I Saw in You Was Just a Mirage" truncated to "Just a Mirage") or the freeze-frame song-to-song editing that is occasionally jarring, this one-hour one-man (and what a man) show just doesn't do the silken-voiced soul-pop maestro Smokey Robinson justice. Captured live at Bally's Grand Opera House in Atlantic City, NJ, in 1990, Robinson's voice is still amazingly supple, hitting the high notes on such all-time hits as "My Girl," "I Second that Emotion," "The Tracks of My Tears" and "The Tears of a Clown." Backed by a sizeable band, Robinson's highlight (to me) was a medley led off by "There's a Right Girl for Every Guy" in which he's accompanied initially by just a single guitar, showcasing the voice of a legend. A strong optional purchase. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)
