Fans of the brilliant conceptual mash-ups of punster Steven Wright have been waiting a loooong time for a new standup concert film—more than a decade and a half—and this is it, recorded at a 2006 Toronto performance (recently aired on Comedy Central). The concert itself is short—less than an hour—but the material is wonderful, as Wright riffs on the Jehovah's Witness protection program, a digital camera so advanced you don't need it, and baby monitors as a form of wiretapping, among other topics. In addition, the disc features a short clip from a 1988 standup performance in Boston (a fine sample of the comic's early career), and Wright's 30-minute 1999 short film “One Soldier”—which he produced, directed, wrote, and starred in—a surreal Civil War-era Twilight Zone-esque effort (Wright is actually an Oscar winner for an earlier short film).
