What a gem! While there are scores of videos about bringing babies into the world, there are not nearly as many offering sound early childhood development advice for parents and caregivers. Produced for the Robert R. McCormick Tribune Foundation, this excellent program looks at "ten things" infants and toddlers need not only for their well-being, but for normal brain development. The ten requisites are: parent interaction, loving touch, stable relationships, a safe environment, self-esteem, quality care, play, communication, music, and reading. Actor Tim Reid introduces a variety of noted experts on child growth and development, including doctors T. Berry Brazelton, Felton Earls, Bruce Perry, April Benasich, Barbara Bowman and Mr. Irving Harris, who provide the scholarly backup for the ideas advanced in this lively and positive program. Given its great price, ethnically diverse families, and wide-ranging scope, this is a must purchase for public libraries, as well as high school and college libraries offering childcare vo-tech, nursing, or early childhood development classes. For that matter, it would also make an unbeatable baby shower gift for a friend or relative. Highly recommended. Editor's Choice. Aud: H, C, P. (R. Reagan)
