The Amazing World of Princess Kitty

Given that a cat's favorite movie line is "You talkin' to me?", I was surprised to see a 2-year old former stray named Princess Kitty actually follow commands to jump over poles, fetch balls, shake, wave goodbye, shoot hoops and play the piano amongst other non-traditional feline accomplishments. South Florida animal trainer Karen Payne's talented tabby has been featured in local and national press, appeared on Entertainment Tonight and even landed a small role (she played a cat) in the TV mini-series Hemingway. Viewers will see plenty of footage of Princess Kitty, her trainer, and her vet (who also shares his own life accomplishments in a segment which could have used a little judicious pruning with a chainsaw). Roughly halfway through the program, the focus shifts from profile to instruction, and Payne explains the reward system she uses with Princess Kitty and demonstrates a series of tricks. Loosely assembled, this low-budget documentary features some rather odd juxtapositions, including a scene where Princess Kitty is being dressed up in fancy clothes (and yowling her displeasure), which is immediately followed by what looks like a PSA for being respectful towards animals--the producers apparently see no irony here. But, and I say this as an unrepentant dog owner, you can't discount the cat factor: cat owners are not necessarily rational beings. Many will undoubtedly think this video is pure catnip.
