The Art Of Hair Transplantation

Hair today, gone tomorrow: the lament of 60% of the male population, who will eventually experience male pattern baldness. After briefly addressing the issue of miracle creams and scalp massagers, which doctors agree do not restore hair, The Art of Hair Transplantation follows the treatment of Jeff Penn, who chose to undergo the surgical process (involving the removal of small "donor" patches, generally from the back of the head, which are then "transplanted" to the affected area). As much an art as a science, hair transplantation is not actually taught on the video; rather the program seeks to offer as much information as possible, in order that the viewer may make an informed choice. Under the amazing hands of Dr. John Kiely, M.D., Penn spent about a year receiving the half-hour treatments (which are spaced about two months apart), and now he's a pretty hirsute dude. Several other men who have undergone the treatment are interviewed during the program, and none display the "cornfield" effect popularly associated with the process (during the early 80s, Elton John spent 1,800 œ and ended up with a few wisps). The tape concludes with a list of 20 questions that should be asked of a doctor, and the reminder, once again, that hair transplantation is an art, and that interested viewers should be very careful in their selection of a physician. An intriguing tape, which debunks some popular myths, and highlights the real advances that have taken place over the last decade. Highly recommended. Editor's Choice.
