A popular BBC reality-TV show for the past six years, Ground Force features a trio of gardeners--Charlie Dimmock, Alan Titchmarsh, and Tommy Walsh (who've built gardens for Nelson Mandela, a Bette Middler project in the East Side of Manhattan, and an orphanage in India)--who are given 48 hours and $3,000 to transform an unsuspecting couple's ratty backyard into a garden of earthly delights, turning weeds into waterfalls, garbage into gazebos, and chaos into tranquility. In this delightful “best of,” viewers revisit some of the more interesting highlights (and a few lowlights; there's a fair amount of sexual banter between buxom Charlie and her two male co-hosts) from garden makeovers in the past. DVD extras include 40 minutes of bonus footage and featurettes covering the Top Ten gardens, “Alan's Designs,” “Charlie's Water Features,” “Tommy's Constructions,” and the music of Ground Force. Sure to be appreciated by “green” and “black” thumb gardeners alike, this is highly recommended. Aud: P. (J. Carlson)
