The Branson Scenic, an excursion train that traverses twelve tunnels and five high bridges in the Ozarks, departs from the same Branson, Missouri depot which has served for over fifty years. Offering brief histories of both Branson and of the rail line which is presently known as the Missouri and Northern Arkansas, this tape will probably appeal in equal numbers to railfans and to tourists. While this is padded with a considerable amount of footage of wildflowers, waterfowl, and domestic animals (to the waltz rhythm of Tales of the Vienna Woods, oddly enough), there is still enough bare-bones information concerning the "genealogy" of the railroad, the streamliner cars (former Burlingtons of the Zephyr lines), and the engines (B&Os) for railfans. There's also more than enough video of Branson, "the boom town for shows and celebrities" to interest tourists planning pilgrimages to see the Lennon Sisters or the Osmonds. For public libraries within a reasonable travel distance of the Ozarks. Aud: P. (R. Reagan)
