Based on Lee Strobel's bestselling book of the same name, The Case for Christ details the former legal editor of the Chicago Tribune's two-year investigation into the divinity of Christ. Strobel, an on-the-record atheist antagonistic toward religion, intersperses his findings here with commentary from an articulate, highly-qualified array of scholars and theologians. Part one, “Examining the Record,” assesses the validity of the Gospel accounts, drawing on historical sources outside the New Testament, including the Gnostic Gospels (biblical citations are helpfully featured onscreen, with the manuscript source, language, date, and passage). Part two, “Analyzing Jesus,” discusses Jesus' miracles and role as the Messiah. Part three, “Researching the Resurrection,” examines Jesus' death and burial, together with circumstantial evidence relating to Christ's resurrection. A converted Christian today, Strobel concludes with reflections on his personal journey and offers advice to those contemplating a similar quest. Sporting lavish production values—excellent graphics and music—coupled with lively pacing, The Case for Christ is an invitation rather than a mandate, one that successfully avoids the self-righteous approach that too often characterizes this genre.
