The Christian Story

Speaking at the University of Chicago, nationally-acclaimed, award-winning religious scholar Martin Marty presents a broad overview of Christianity from its provincial Jewish roots to its contemporary global presence. Using a lecture format, Marty repeats the litany “what is your story?”, as he invites Christians to explore their common spiritual history in six short discussions on Jesus and the early Church, the Middle Ages and Medieval Catholicism, the Reformation, the Church in America, the Enlightenment, and the international growth of Christianity. As in any survey, the material is not as in-depth as one would like, but Marty does a respectable job of touching on the salient features of each topic, with the end result being that the converted will come away with an expanded view of their faith.
