Omnipresent A&E sleuth-in-a-suit Bill Kurtis and the real Erin Brockovich get far more air time than Oscar winner Julia Roberts in this factual documentary from the American Justice series exploring the real story behind Brockovich's involvement in helping the residents of the small town of Hinkley, California battle the big corporate polluter Pacific Gas & Electric. Drawing on interviews with Brockovich herself and her former small-time lawyer boss, Ed ("they're called boobs, Ed") Masry, the documentary also trots in opposing witnesses to muddle the moral certitude of the feature version. Ultimately, the real Erin Brockovich proves to be more interesting than the Roberts confection. Sure to be a popular addition, given the movie, this is recommended. Aud: H, C, P. (M. Tribby)
