Filmmaker James Cameron (Titanic) not only helped produce but also co-hosts—along with Jewish Canadian filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici—this History Channel-aired documentary, in which a team of archeologists, geologists, Egyptologists, and theologians explore new discoveries related to the Biblical exodus of the Jews from Egypt. Billed as the product of six years of “unprecedented” research, The Exodus Decoded presents recent findings suggesting that the famed exodus may actually have taken place several centuries earlier than previously thought. Combining on-location footage in Egypt, Greece, and Israel together with state-of-the-art CGI recreations, the film also looks at how various natural phenomena occurring during the period (here suggested as roughly 1500 B.C.E.) might have factored into Biblical accounts of the 10 plagues and the parting of the Red Sea. DVD extras include a behind-the-scenes featurette. Recommended. Aud: P. (E. Hulse)
