Inspired by Michael F. Jacobson's and Sarah Fritschner's popular paperback The Fast Food Guide (included with the tape), this program follows the Horton siblings as they embark on an investigatory journey through the fast food establishments of their town. The kids are on the lookout for high fat, sodium, cholesterol, and sugar percentages in burgers, fries, specialty sandwiches, milkshakes, and salad bars--and, in the Wendys, McDonalds, Burger King's, and Taco Bell's of fast food land, they find all this and more. With Americans eating out an estimated 25% of the time, and much of that at fast food establishments, it's worth while to know what we're eating. Although the video can only skim the surface, compared to the amount of information in the book, the kid-oriented format might be enough of a lever to get children and teens thinking about the nutritional value of fast foods.
