Part of a four-volume series on environmental science (the other titles are Our Special Place on Earth, The Air: Pollution and Solutions, and The Water: Pollution and Solutions; series price: $340), this solid program introduces students to the three conservation "Rs"--reduce, reuse, and recycle. Viewers are shown that while the land provides the primary resources we need for food, shelter, and energy, the land and its life-giving bounty are finite. With the Earth's population expected to double within the next 40 years, it is necessary for upcoming generations to be more aware of the effects of overuse and pollution. Despite the somewhat slow pace due to the narrator's voice having that sing-song, sluggish cadence usually reserved for talking to infants, this video is a simple, effective introduction to environmental responsibility, offering creative suggestions for involvement that go beyond the usual don't-heat-the-whole-neighborhood tips. Recommended. Aud: E, I. (E. Gieschen)
