The tropical island of Peleliu was the site of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II. Fifty years later, a group of veterans set out to locate the command post of the Imperial Japanese Army in time for a large reunion of other veterans coming to Peleliu to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the battle. Unfortunately, their quest does not make for gripping drama, and film clips of what is presumably the Peleliu battle are presented haphazardly. What these men did fifty years ago was undoubtedly courageous and memorable, yet the program never really conveys to viewers why the search for the Japanese command post is so important to these veterans (although when the reunion is finally held there is a reconciliation of sorts between the Japanese and the Americans and the Japanese are able to give the remains of their military leaders a proper burial). In the wake of numerous World War II anniversary videos, this one could definitely be passed over by all but those libraries needing exhaustive materials on the war. Aud: C, P. ( J. Carlson)
